Further Information: Run by art dealer Léonce Rosenberg, the gallery L’Effort Moderne invited representatives from the new architectural movement De Stijl from the Netherlands to present drawings, photographs and architectural models. This exhibition is now referred to as the movement’s “formal debut” (via Encyclopedia of Twentieth Century Architecture, Stephen Sennott (ed.), Taylor & Francis, 2004, p. 349). Van der Rohe, who was not officially a member of the movement, presented his 1922 glass skyscraper model, while Théo van Doesburg and Cornelis van Eesteren presented their joint projects Maison d’Artiste and Maison Particulière. Gerrit Rietveld, a furniture designer and architect who later build the Schröder House in Utrecht, contributed a design for a jewelry shop and the urban architect J-J. P. Oud presented two designs for social housing projects, Spangen Housing and Tusschendijken Housing.
